National Photographic Portrait Prize 2007 Finalist
This is portrait of hope, it is a portrait of a man, a young man, who is getting his life back. He is starting to emerge from a long, dark chapter in which alcohol, drug use, schizophrenia, depression and homelessness have been constant companions. Made at Trelowarren House, a Richmond Fellowship residence where Barry lives, the image attempts to capture this transition.
Photography is the most pervasive and popular medium for portraiture and makes a natural fit with the Gallery, being a natural extension of the Gallery's longstanding commitment to photography as a contemporary portrait medium.
