National Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 Finalist
I have taken portraits in the beds of men on the cusp of adulthood, ranging in age from 18 to 28. The series aims to explore the loss of innocence through practical contact with adult life, which is evident in the changing physical characteristics present during the transitory age of young manhood. Jesse Hill’s body language and gaze is a reaction to the intrusion created by a female photographer in his very personal space, and is also a demonstration of the initial naivety in adolescence through to the maturity and convictions evident in adulthood.
The NPPP exhibition is selected from a national field of entries. The annual exhibition, now in its fourth year, reflects the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
