National Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 Finalist
I am passionate about searching out beauty in everyday life and demonstrating its presence through my photographs. I want people to appreciate that beauty is not reserved for media celebrities since beauty has little to do with the material world. For me, the beauty of the portrait of Sofia Sabados stems from her honesty and innocence. She is not cloyingly sweet, she has not performed for the camera and she is not trying to be anyone other than herself. There are also no material objects in the portrait to distract the viewer from appreciating the beauty of her honesty.
The NPPP exhibition is selected from a national field of entries. The annual exhibition, now in its fourth year, reflects the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
