National Photographic Portrait Prize 2023 Finalist
Abraham Admasu is a Year 11 student attending the Australian-funded School of St Yared, located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The school provides children from some of the poorest and most marginalised communities with high-quality education, meals, books and uniforms to help break the cycle of poverty.
This portrait of Abraham was taken against a simple white background designed to emulate a large billboard. It intentionally draws the viewer in, showcasing his raw, authentic power and untapped potential for his future.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
