On the weekend of 11 and 12 April 2026 many roads around the National Portrait Gallery will be temporarily closed.

- King Edward Terrace (marked in red on the map above) will be closed until 3:00pm.
- King George Terrace (marked in yellow on the map) will re-open by 10:30am, but major access roads to the National Triangle (including State Circle) will be closed until 2:30pm.

Other nearby parking locations
While the National Portrait Gallery's underground car park is not available, there are several other nearby options for parking, although they are likely to be busy with people visiting the area for the Canberra Marathon.
Free parking is available around the John Gorton building which is located on the other side of King Edward Terrace from the National Portrait Gallery. It is approximately 400m walking distance to the Gallery.
Questacon and the National Library have large outdoor car parks, which are also affected by road closures and detours, but are available from 10:00am and located around 500–600m walking distance from the Gallery.
