National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 Finalist
This portrait of Tiffany Toovey was shot on the street using a portable backdrop with natural light. Most days I meander through Perth’s city streets looking for people to photograph. I see someone and simply ask if they would mind having a portrait taken, nine out of ten people say they would love to. When I saw Tiffany at a curb side café, she projected the attitude of a new young woman - strong, confident, creative and in control of her future. She stood in front of my backdrop and looked straight into the lens, twelve frames later we parted.
