National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 Finalist
I met Gabriel on his first day in Australia. He’d been travelling the world and was lodging in a spare room at my girlfriend’s house in Clovelly, New South Wales. I asked if I could take his portrait in the abandoned apartment upstairs - scheduled to be demolished in the coming months - with breath-taking views of the ocean. I’d inadvertently left the back door ajar whilst I was shooting, and the cat from downstairs followed us in and leapt onto the table. I hadn’t envisioned the portrait with ‘Blossom’ the cat, but now cannot envision this portrait without her.
