National Photographic Portrait Prize 2007 Finalist
This is a portrait of Margo Kingston, journalist and author. The small readymade figures refer to ongoing political issues undermining our 'humane, egalitarian, liberal democracy', played out in this image as a part tableau below her clear-eyed gaze. She can see exactly what is happening in the big and small picture and is unmoved by the spin and dissemblance of mainstream media.
Photography is the most pervasive and popular medium for portraiture and makes a natural fit with the Gallery, being a natural extension of the Gallery's longstanding commitment to photography as a contemporary portrait medium.
