National Photographic Portrait Prize 2023 People's Choice Award
KAHA in Maori means to be a strong warrior, and this is what Vicky has been. Two years ago Vicky suffered burns to almost 60% of her body. Her Rarotongan legs and Kiwi mana got her through 18 surgeries, eight weeks in a coma and over seven months in hospital. Vicky had no photos or mirrors in her house and wanted a photo showing her inner strength and beauty.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
