Other nearby parking locations
While the National Portrait Gallery's underground car park is not available, there are several other nearby options for parking, although they are likely to be busy with people visiting the area for the Canberra Marathon.
Free parking is available around the John Gorton building which is located on the other side of King Edward Terrace from the National Portrait Gallery. It is approximatley 400m walking distance to the Gallery.
Questacon and the National Library have large outdoor car parks, which are also affected by road closures and detours, but are available from 10:00am and located around 500–600m walking distance from the Gallery.
