The underground public carpark can be accessed from Parkes Place. The car park is open 7 days per week and closes at 5:30pm. Parking spaces for people with mobility difficulties are provided in the carpark close to the public access lifts.
Please note that there are no parking spaces for mini-buses, campervans, or trailers in the visitor car park and the visitor car park has a low clearance of 2.2m.
There is a pick-up and drop-off space in front of the gallery on King Edward Terrace near the main entry.
Paid parking applies 8:30am to 5:30pm daily, including weekends and public holidays. Visitors can pay for parking using a credit card (Visa and Mastercard only) at the pay stations in the basement lift lobby or at the boom gate. Cash payments can not be accepted.

Other nearby parking locations
When the National Portrait Gallery's underground carpark is full, there are several other nearby options for parking.
On the weekend free parking is available around the John Gorton building which is located on the other side of King Edward Terrace from the National Portrait Gallery. It is approximatley 400m walking distance to the Gallery.
Questacon and the National Library also have large outdoor carparks which are around 500–600m walking distance from the Gallery.
