- Can you tell us a little bit about this incredible portrait?
- Yeah, so it's my daughter. So, I shot this last year, I think on the Gold Coast, we had a little lockdown period, couple of lockdown period. So, I decided to make some floral head pieces and chuck a black sheet up in the lounge room and shoot the daughters. And this is one of the photos that I shot, yeah.
- That's amazing. So you actually construct all of the...?
- Yeah, I did. First time doing it. I thought, something to do during lockdown, we were really bored. Couldn't get out and shoot. So yeah, set up the lounge room as a studio and shot the daughters.
- Some things, good things came out of COVID after all.
- I think they did, yeah. I learned a lot during lockdown, really got to focus on photography. I wasn't working, so I got to do photography, which was really good, yeah.
- Have you been doing photography for long?
- I've been learning it for a long time, but like I've only shot my kids, family. So, only during COVID I started to shoot other people. Like I've done one photo shoot and someone said, "You should shoot other people, like your work's good". I'm like, yeah, I really only started to call myself photographer last year sometime. I was like too ashamed to call myself, I said, I do photography, but I'm not a photographer. People would just encourage me to get out there, and do more work. And somebody even encouraged me to enter this. Seen my work, and said, "You should enter". Gave me the link to this. I didn't even know what it was and they're like, "Here's the link. "Put it in". I'm like, "Yeah, maybe not". And then on the day I'm like, I should put it in today. And then yeah, I was really stoked. Amazed to even be here, be a finalist, yeah.
