White Drummer Ghost Class is a self portrait I made in the Mojave Desert, California. This performance is not framed by its location, but inhabits it visually and sonically tuning into the frequencies of site and place, the inexplicable and the other. In 'Ghost Class' I am drawn to this site for its fragility and decay. I play a spontaneous composition throughout the transitional zone of twilight, buffeted by the wind, and record an autobiographical exorcism. This reflects on personal family mythologies of flight, particularly in relation to my father, a pilot in the Malayan Auxiliary Air force in the 1950s. As I play, I simultaneously embrace and let go of the trauma and triumphs that shape our sense of the world as we hurtle through time.
