We value your privacy! Your information will be collected in accordance with the National Portrait Gallery’s Privacy Policy. Information collected will be used to conduct this promotion, send you our fortnightly newsletter, and update you about Portrait Gallery events and exhibitions. You will be able to opt out at any time.
Entries close 11.59pm Tuesday 28 February 2023. Prizes valid from 10 March to 18 June 2023. Entries will be randomly selected and drawn on Wednesday 1 March and winners will be notified via email by Friday 3 March 2023. If a winner does not claim the prize within 48 hours of being notified, the NPG reserves the right to select another winner.
Terms & conditions of entry to the competition
GENERAL
- This competition is conducted by the National Portrait Gallery (ABN 54 74 277 1196) (“The Promoter”).
- A submission via this link: by the deadline comprises “an entry”. There is no cost or fee to enter.
- This information and the instructions relating to this competition on this website forms the Terms and Conditions. By completing an entry, the entrant accepts these Terms and Conditions.
- In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any other reference to this competition, these Terms and Conditions prevail.
- The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions.
- The Promoter may also cancel or suspend this competition and its prize if an event beyond the control of the Promoter corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition or its prize. The Promoter will disqualify any individual who has tampered with the entry process or any other aspect of this competition.
- By submitting an entry, the entrant grants to the Promoter permission to publish the content of any images, audio and video captured by the Promoter during the winner’s visit to the National Portrait Gallery for promotional, publicity, educational and administrative purposes. Publication includes, but is not limited to, print, online, social media, and supply to journalists for media stories.
WHO CAN ENTER?
- To enter you must be aged 18 years or over at the time of entry.
- You must be an Australian citizen or resident.
- Directors and employees of the Promoter (together with their immediate families) are not eligible for entry.
HOW TO ENTER
- Entries will only be accepted up until 11.59pm Tuesday 28 February 2023.
- Entrants must submit their entry in accordance with the instructions provided online.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- All details provided by the entrant must be true and accurate.
- Only one entry per entrant is permitted.
- Entrants must include their full name (must be over 18), email address and postcode.
DRAW
- The winner will be randomly drawn from all entries received by 11:59pm on Tuesday, 28 February 2023.
- The winner be drawn on Wednesday 1 March 2023 and notified by Friday 3 March 2023.
- The winner will be notified via email. If a winner is not forthcoming within 48 hours of the email being sent, the Promoter reserves the right to select another winner or not award the prize. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure their contact details are correct when entering the competition.
- The winner may be announced to the public on during the period of the exhibition Portrait23: Identity (10 March – 18 June 2023) by listing the name of the winner on the Promoter’s website and social media.
- No responsibility by the Promoter is accepted for late, lost or misdirected entries.
- The Promoter’s decision in relation to any aspect of the competition is final and binding on each person who enters. No correspondence will be entered into.
- The prizes are not transferable, not refundable and not redeemable for cash. The Promoter reserves the right to redeem all unclaimed prizes and dispose of them at its absolute discretion.
PRIZES
- The winner will obtain the following;
- One nights’ accommodation at Midnight Hotel Autograph Collection (value $250)
- A private tour for you and a friend of Portrait23: Identity (value $250)
- A copy of the exhibition catalogue (value $29.90 RRP)

- The winner agrees to notify the Promoter of their intention to claim the prize at least 2 weeks prior to their intended travel date. The Promoter reserves the right to change the date of accommodation, dinner and private tour.
- The accommodation offer is subject to availability and the winner acknowledges that their preferred travel dates may not be available if sufficient notice is not provided.
- The winner is responsible for all other costs, including travel to and from Canberra.
- Unless otherwise stated, all prizes are valid for redemption from 10 March 2023 – 18 June 2023, being the period Portrait23: Identity is on display at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra.

- The Promoter cannot guarantee the continuous integrity of its servers. As a result, you may at times experience disruption or other difficulties in using the Promoter’s website. - This competition is governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory.

Privacy policy
The National Portrait Gallery is committed to protecting your privacy, including as a result of your interaction/s with our website. The Gallery is required to meet the mandatory requirements set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (the Privacy Act).
Email newsletters
The Gallery offers a number of regular email bulletins including the monthly Portrait News, Circle of Friends updates and the Education mailing list for updates and special announcements. In sending email newsletters the Gallery complies with the Australian Government's Spam Act 2003. All bulk emails have an opt-out feature in their footer which, if utilised, completely removes the email address from the Gallery’s secure email service. Email addresses attached to one list are never merged or added into other Gallery lists.
Automatic logging of information
IP (Internet Protocol) addresses (an IP is the address of a computer) of visitors are automatically logged by our servers. The server makes a record of your visit and logs limited information for statistical purposes – your IP address, top-level domain name (.com, .gov, .edu, .com.au etc), the date and time of your visit to our site, pages accessed and documents downloaded, previous site visited and the type of browser used. These logs are used to administer the website and to diagnose problems in order to be able to rectify them. This data is also used for audience research to help us to improve the site.
IP addresses do not ordinarily contain any personally identifiable information and are aggregated for analysis. Such aggregate data may be used by the Gallery. Recording usage patterns helps us to identify popular areas of our site, and helps us to improve the site. Reports generated on aggregate data are periodically reported on as part of the Gallery’s internal governance.
Collection of personal information
The Gallery collects personal information through its website such as name, phone/fax number, email address/postal address when you provide it in order to receive specific Gallery services such as email newsletters, prize entries or memberships. This information is stored in secure Gallery databases. The information you provide will be used solely by the relevant Gallery staff for its intended purpose, as stated on those pages. Your name, contact details and other information will not be provided to any other person or third-party organisation without your consent.
