Helga Leunig, née Salwe, was working as a professional photographer at the Age in the late 1980s when she met Michael Leunig, cartoonist. The couple have two children, whom Helga home-schooled for some time. They have made several trips to the Northern Territory, and she exhibited portraits, landscapes and still-lifes taken in various Indigenous communities at Manning Clark House, Canberra, in late 2012. A small selection of Leunig’s photographs is available through commercial galleries and the National Library of Australia has eight of her photographs of Indigenous subjects.
