James Wilson (1760–1840), naval officer, was the commander of a ship called the Duff, which in 1797 brought a group of missionaries from the London Missionary Society to Tahiti. Many members of the Missionary Society group, including John Eyre, James Elder, James Cover and Rowland Hassall later went to Australia.
