Judy Davis (b. 1955), actor and director, grew up in Perth and studied acting at NIDA, graduating in 1977. Davis' breakout performance in My Brilliant Career (1979) launched a celebrated film, stage and television career that to date has earned her numerous accolades including nine AACTA awards, three Emmys, two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and two Oscar nominations. Robert McFarlane's portrait of her shows her with director John Duigan on the set of Winter of our Dreams (1981), for which Davis won the first of her four AACTAs for Best Actress in a Leading Role. South Australian-born McFarlane's love of the performing arts and willingness to spend countless hours around theatres and film sets has resulted in a body of work in which his subjects are poised in introspective moments of reflection, or intensively engaged in their craft.
