The Hon. Neville Wran AC QC (1926-2014) was the longest serving premier of New South Wales (1976 - 86), achieving major legal, social, environmental and cultural reforms. Wran stood aside as premier in 1983 while a royal commission investigated allegations that he had attempted to influence a chief magistrate. It was at this time that he made his famous remark "as you know, Balmain boys don't cry". Wran was exonerated and resigned from politics in 1986 to become a successful merchant banker. He was affiliated with numerous financial and philanthropic organisations.
