John Spooner (b. 1946), editorial cartoonist and illustrator, graduated in law before turning to political illustrating and cartooning in the early 1970s. He has worked for the Age newspaper since 1973, and since 2006 has supplied the cartoon accompanying the editorial. He was editorial adviser for Dissent magazine from 2000 to 2001, and for Quadrant from 1991 to 1997. He has won four Walkley awards and five Stanley awards, and the 2003 Graham Perkin Award for journalist of the year. He has published several volumes of cartoons including Spooner in the works (1999). Also a printmaker and painter, he was shared winner of the Fremantle Print Prize and the Mornington Peninsula Print Acquisitive Prize in 1986.
