National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 Finalist
‘It’s ok, I didn’t feel anything’ is an ongoing series of intimate portraits in contemporary Australia. My subjects share a commonality of resistance to capitalist ideals and authority – they fiercely challenge cultural normative behaviours, practices and expectations through their actions and identities. ‘It’s ok, I didn’t feel anything’ is a dialogue – between subject and photographer, between lovers, between friends. This series seeks to unmask among these fierce subjects a commonality of shared vulnerability, a sense of belonging but also loneliness – a sense of desired connection to each other in an ever more fucked up world.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
