National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 Finalist
A portrait of Australian Fashion designer Alex Perry, who is renowned for wearing his sunglasses on his forehead. I wanted to shoot him without them, and surprisingly there was little debate. I thought the pin he was using for a dress just as I walked in worked out looking like a toothpick. This, combined with the lighting, helped to create a masculine and powerful image of the man.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
