National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 Finalist
Melanie has dedicated her life to animal welfare; she is devoted to her four rescue dogs (plus three sheep, two cats and galah), with whom she shares the special connection we can see here. By day she can be found in working boots and Akubra on her property in rural NSW near the old Couridjah Station, but occasionally she transforms into a vintage goddess. This image is part of a series, ‘Project Hound’, which uses portraiture to explore the wide range of lifestyles of ex-racing greyhounds, and celebrates their adoptive owners.
Sarah Engledow picks some favourites from a decade of the National Photographic Portrait Prize.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
