National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 Finalist
Shannon Dooley is the founder of ‘Retrosweat’ – an 80s-inspired fitness aerobics class where people can dance and release their inhibitions. Shannon herself encapsulates Retrosweat: she is a confident, colourful and engaging presence who knows how to have fun. When Shannon was seventeen her hair fell out without warning, in a matter of days. She was subsequently diagnosed with alopecia universalis, an incurable condition. And while this has caused some emotional turmoil in the past, now Shannon doesn’t let anything get in her way.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
