National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 Finalist
Ayesha is eight years old and lives with her mother in a home they rent and share with another person. She is standing in her bedroom; however, it remains unused, storing household items. Ayesha prefers sleeping with her mother and sharing her warmth and company to being alone in her bedroom. This photo was taken as part of a series looking at the growing class disparity along one street in Surry Hills, New South Wales.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
