National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 Finalist
This portrait has been inspired by transition, an investigation into time and identity. Ashley sits in the bath – a private space made public – her vulnerability present, exposed and confronting. She shares with me stories of sexuality, desire, and pain in raw, unedited detail. Her gaze both invites us in and encourages acknowledgement. This work is about burying the old and birthing the new.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
