National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 Finalist
This is a portrait of my son, William. He was playing in the backyard and I convinced him to pose for some photos. I was really drawn to this image as it captures the innocence with which he sees the world around him; his eyes convey the vulnerability that all children have. As he grows older, I will see less and less of his childhood innocence. It makes me want to draw him into my arms and protect him from the world.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
