National Photographic Portrait Prize 2014 Finalist
With his beautiful auburn hair, his big brown eyes, his pale skin Taeyang is the grandson of an Aboriginal grandmother and an Italian and Welsh grandfather. This photograph was taken after a regular muck around in the back yard with his cousins, Daniel and Josiah. Sometimes I can feel something in his eyes, that feeling that he sees society wants more from him at the age of nine. He asks when were alone "Why don't I have brown skin like my cousins?". Taeyang is my son.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries that reflect the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
