National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013 Finalist
This work is inspired by renowned graffiti artist, Banksy. I had been planning a series of portraits in which subjects contend with evil shadows, representing the darker aspects of their nature. Kiem Nguyen approached me independently with the same idea, except the shadows would be graffiti art in the style of Banksy. This image also references the infamous execution of Nguyễn Văn Lém by Nguyễn Ngọc Loan on a street in Saigon on February 1, 1968.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries that reflect the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
