National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013 Finalist
Millie is a 14-year-old water polo player from Melbourne. She was recently selected as part of the Victorian girls 17 years and under water polo team for 2012, and hopes to represent Australia at the 2020 Olympics. Having previously participated in less inclusive sports, Millie has found water polo to be a sport where she can feel comfortable in herself, and where women of all different body types can succeed. Moments before this portrait was captured, Millie joked that her bathers hang on her bedroom wall – a daily reminder of the dream she is chasing.
