National Photographic Portrait Prize 2007 Finalist
Over the last two years I have been searching for my spiritual sense of place within Western culture. In my portrait of 'Faye' I enter a world of fiction by looking at the sitter as a principal religious icon, visually suggesting that within many western religions women do not play such an important role but are predominately invisible. Spirituality continues to be an elusive and challenging part of my every day life.
Photography is the most pervasive and popular medium for portraiture and makes a natural fit with the Gallery, being a natural extension of the Gallery's longstanding commitment to photography as a contemporary portrait medium.
