I never thought that this portrait would open up a suitcase of memories about family for me. Paul and I share a common heritage, both of our mothers and grandmothers were immigrants from Malta. Their frailty, naiveté and the insecurity of their experience as new immigrants came flooding back.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers.
