National Photographic Portrait Prize 2012 Finalist
At 87, Gil is still playing in small venues around town and passing on his knowledge to younger players. He has worked as an arranger, producer and composer, and has worked with Motown artists such as Diana Ross, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, the Jackson 5 and Gladys Knight (to name just a few), and has shared the stage with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Count Basie. After all this, Gil now lives in Melbourne. He doesn't do it for the money he says, he just loves the music and lives to make people smile.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries that reflect the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
