National Photographic Portrait Prize 2012 Finalist
It was my third day shooting the stills for the Variety Adventure TV Riches of the Outback documentary when we reached Stuart Creek Station. We arrived at the cattle yard at approximately 2pm and the thermometer read 47 degrees, but it felt perfect. We met Pepe, Ned, Dion and Donald - four generations of Indigenous folk working the land. Ned, pictured, wears a hat that could tell you as many stories as Ned himself could. Weathered and battered, he stands before you with half a century worth of experiences and stories.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries that reflect the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
