Kyanne, Aurukun NAIDOC Formal Ball, 2024

‘This is a portrait of Kyanne, who enjoys fishing, spending afternoons with family, and hopes to work with children in the future. The photograph was taken at the 2024 NAIDOC Ball, which fosters confidence, belief, courage and hope among the youth of Aurukun. Aurukun is home to five main spiritual clan groups: Apalech, Winchanam, Wanam, Chara and Puutch.’

David Prichard is a photographer based on Bundjalung Country/Byron Bay whose portraits create space for the subject to command the frame.

The People’s Choice Award is generously supported by the Calvert-Jones Foundation, with the artist who wins the most votes receiving $10,000.

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025

The NPPP is an annual prize for Australian photographers. The year’s most outstanding photographic portrait is awarded a $30,000 cash prize and photographic equipment valued at $20,000 courtesy of our Imaging Partner, Canon Australia.
