National Photographic Portrait Prize 2023 Finalist
Boyca Durrurrnga is a young Yolŋu boy, born in Gove and living in the Ramingining community, North-East Arnhem Land. He loves hunting barramundi, stingray and kangaroo. His Dreaming is the Brolga and Butterfly from his mother's side, and the Rainbow Serpent from his father's side. Many years ago, a young Yolŋu girl was taken by a crocodile at Mayung Creek right near where Boyca was standing in this photo, so we were very quiet and respectful while visiting Gartji.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
