Bathe in the sea and the sun, 2021

Elizabeth Looker

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2022 Finalist

digital print on paper (frame: 91.4cm x 122.4cm depth 4.0cm)

I was asked to record this moment in time as Fleur, post hysterectomy, was nearing the end of her chemotherapy treatment for an extremely rare, very aggressive form of cancer found in her uterus. I could see the pain she was in, the strength she had, but above all, I could see her beautiful spirit. As I took these photographs she was so free, released, joyful, connected, transcendent.
