Darling Portrait Prize 2020 Finalist
This is a simple oil painting composition with a variety of intricacies and nuances. My intention was for the primary focus to be the details of Erica's features, and the gestural fluidity of form. To create the piece, I had a short initial sitting with Erica, then used a photograph obtained during the session as a reference point. I employed a thin to thick layering technique, which illustrates each subsequent under-layer. To create a true representation, I started using gestural shapes, subsequently building tones and sculpting a tighter form.
