National Photographic Portrait Prize 2020 Finalist
My work is a longstanding examination of male gender identity and sexual orientation across cultural contexts, with belonging, inclusion and rejection the starting point of my early research. In my photography, the staged male body expresses ambiguities between form and representation in order to deliver physical and emotional compositions, such as idolatry or fantasies. I create my own universe where notions of dissimulation, norms and difference broaden the spectrum of my reflection, at times based on symbolism and folklore. Precinct 9 is a marital portrait of Pascal Proteau and Gavin Hicks.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
