National Photographic Portrait Prize 2019 Finalist
Maria is a proud Italian woman. When her husband passed away, she began dressing in traditional mourning black to honour his memory and symbolise her grief. She still wears it today. Wearing black in mourning is a fading tradition for Italian widows, but it’s a powerful symbol of the dark, empty feelings of loss.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
