National Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 Finalist
This is a portrait of my daughter Sage, as she stands on the threshold of young adulthood. This image forms part of a series of photographs that document my daughter’s metamorphosis from teenager to adult, as well as what this transition means for me as both mother and photographer. I am reminded of a quote from Kahlil Gibran’s poem, On Children, which reads: “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.” In many ways, this portrait of my daughter captures a moment in time just before the arrow takes flight.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
