National Photographic Portrait Prize 2015 Finalist
This is Geoffrey Stewart, son of Warri and Yutungka Kyangu, who lived in traditional ways until 1977. Geoffrey enjoys what may be one of the last fires he will light on his remote traditional lands in the Gibson Desert in the search of food. It has taken four long days to reach this spot. He sheds a tear as he watches the flames engulf the spinifex and bush. Geoffrey was born here and roamed the area until he was 14. In a way, he knows he will not make it back ‘Home’.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
