National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013 Finalist
Family portraits are easier when the children are not your own. During this session my children, Molly and Finn Nolan, jumped around like cheeky monkeys. I was about to either add the?cat to the scene or call it quits! Then the laughter stopped, my daughter sat alone and this moment happened. I asked Molly, ‘Why the frown?’. She told me, ‘You have washed out all the birds' nests and now the birds have nowhere to live!’. Sharing this steep learning curve with our children is a privilege. Their curiosity is contagious and it inspires me to use my camera to explore our journey together.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize exhibition is selected from a national field of entries that reflect the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
