National Photographic Portrait Prize 2007 Finalist
My very grumpy and very pregnant wife, in one of my usual environmental portraits. I believe in a connection between individuals and their environment, which can be seen as a decoder of character. Here we see a woman tired in the end of her pregnancy, waiting for things to unfold, the baby to arrive, and life to be reorganised. Her belly as full as her bathroom.
Photography is the most pervasive and popular medium for portraiture and makes a natural fit with the Gallery, being a natural extension of the Gallery's longstanding commitment to photography as a contemporary portrait medium.
