National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009 Finalist
'Brian Ebersole - Cage fighter', is part of a body of work that displays cage fighters seconds before they step into the wire octagon to do battle and straight after they leave it. The fighters wear only small gloves and the extreme violence has led to people demanding it be banned. Some fighters exit the octagon carried on the shoulders of their fans whilst others are carried out on stretchers. Brian lost in his bid for the CFC Middleweight Championship against the reigning champ Hector Lombard by way of 4th round KO.
In its second year at the National Portrait Gallery, and for the first time touring to other venues, the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2009 continues to present surprising perspectives on the nature of contemporary portrait photography.
