National Photographic Portrait Prize 2010 Finalist
David Carter is a flamboyant self-styled dandy-about-London town. An internationally renowned interior designer, he had clear ideas about how he wanted to be photographed. Although I was pleased with a series of portraits of Carter inside his East London mansion, disguised by a large Afghan sheepskin hat and round sunglasses, I prefer this guarded yet revealing image of him. It was one of only two frames that I managed pre-shoot while sitting with him in his courtyard.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers.
