Art Gallery of New South Wales. Gift of Dame Mary Gilmore, D.H. Souter and the artist 1936
Gilmore (1865-1962), a poet, folklorist, member of the ill-fated New Australia movement which settled in Paraguay (1893) and a staunch advocate for Aboriginal causes and Labor, became a celebrated public figure by the 1930s.
This exhibition focuses on exploring national and communal identity through sculptural production in Australia, from the early decades of settlement through to the present day
