Enrico Taglietti, 2010

by Vikky Wilkes

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 Finalist

Enrico Taglietti is the ACT's oldest practising architect and a recipient of the Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal Award (2007). He is pictured in the sitting room of his home in Griffith with a coffee table he designed and made in 1955. Made of Queensland maple, the 2.5 metre table has a deeply carved centre which once cradled his baby daughter. In 1992, the National Gallery of Australia's Director, Betty Churcher, noticed the unique table on a visit and liked it so much she asked if she could have it for the Gallery. His family refused to part with it and the table is now home to his collection of tobacco pipes.
