National Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 Finalist
This image of Binowee Bayles is part of a series of images of Indigenous people in their country. Binowee is the Aboriginal Program Coordinator, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. As a young Aboriginal woman, proud in her identity and of her culture, Binowee shares her knowledge that has been passed on by her elders from one generation to the next, since the beginning of time. Through her Dreaming Tours, Binowee shows that although this is predominantly a built environment, it is still Country and the stories are still relevant today.
The NPPP exhibition is selected from a national field of entries. The annual exhibition, now in its fourth year, reflects the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
