National Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 Finalist
This photograph was taken in a dorm room that I shared with Khen Ly, Peter Hoppe, Soc Tang and Rome Fakhr at a drug rehab. It took me a long time to pluck up the courage to ask them if I could get a shot of them all together. We come from all over the country to get our lives back from the brink of death. The discussions that took place in that room most nights were very real and would make most feet curl. There is hardness. Yet there is the human spirit. The way out is the way through.
The NPPP exhibition is selected from a national field of entries. The annual exhibition, now in its fourth year, reflects the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
