‘For two years I documented my family, friends and relatives for my series The Christmas Tree Bucket that looks at Christmas and special occasions. The photographs focus on the private moments and quiet exchanges of family members as they take time out from the hurly burly normally associated with such celebrations. This portrait is of my son Jem, lost in his own world at the end of the day during the Christmas period.’

Trent Parke lives and works in Tarntanya/Adelaide and is the first Australian to become a Full Member of the Magnum Photo Agency. His work offers an emotional and psychological portrait of family life that is poetic and often darkly humorous.
